Dell PowerEdge R960

The Dell PowerEdge R960 is a 4U four-socket rack server running up to four 4th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors with up to 60 cores each and optional Intel QuickAssist Technology. It offers 64 DDR5 DIMM slots (up to 16TB at up to 4800 MT/s), up to twelve PCIe Gen5 slots, up to four 400W double-width GPUs, and up to 32x 2.5" SAS/SATA or 24x NVMe front drives. Managed by iDRAC9, with air cooling or optional Direct Liquid Cooling, it is a scale-up foundation for the largest in-memory databases and compute-intensive core workloads. Fully configurable.

Up to four 4th Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors with up to 60 cores each, for up to 240 cores, with optional Intel QuickAssist Technology.

It has 64 DDR5 RDIMM slots for up to 16TB of memory, running at up to 4800 MT/s with one DIMM per channel and 4400 MT/s with two. Only registered ECC DDR5 DIMMs are supported.

Up to four 400W double-width GPUs, installed in full-length PCIe Gen5 slots. The R960 offers up to twelve PCIe Gen5 x16 slots in total.

Front options include 8, 16 or 32x 2.5-inch SAS/SATA drives, up to 24x 2.5-inch NVMe drives, or 16x SAS/SATA plus 8x NVMe, with PERC 11 and PERC 12 controllers and BOSS-N1 M.2 NVMe boot. Please specify your capacity needs when you submit your quote configuration.

Dell positions the R960 against the R940xa. It moves from 2nd Gen to 4th Gen Xeon Scalable processors, from 48 DDR4 slots to 64 DDR5 slots (up to 16TB), and from PCIe Gen3 to twelve Gen5 slots. GPU support goes to four 400W double-width cards, and it adds an OCP 3.0 slot and optional liquid cooling.
