The following lists the features and functions that are in the upcoming 4th Generation Intel® Xeon Scalable Processor offering:
- Faster UPI with up to four Intel Ultra Path Interconnect (Intel UPI) at up to 16 GT/s, increasing multi-socket bandwidth.
- More, faster I/O with PCI Express 5 and up to 80 lanes (per socket)
- Enhanced Memory Performance with DDR5 support and memory speed up to 4800 MT/s in one DIMM per channel (1DPC) and 4400 MT/s in two DIMM per channel (2DPC)
- New built-in accelerators for data analytics, networking, storage, crypto, and data compression
- 8470Q and 6458Q 350 W CPUs that require liquid cooling support.
The PowerEdge R760xa offers two types of cooling options:
- Air cooling
- Direct Liquid Cooling (DLC) (optional)
Fans
The R760xa supports a single fan type, with all system configurations requiring six fans installed.
Liquid Cooling
The 8470Q and 6458Q 350W CPUs require liquid cooling, which applies to the processors only. Installing liquid cooling removes the rear VGA port; a kit is available to restore it, though doing so consumes a PCIe slot.
With the VGA port removed, the system uses a different I/O board featuring a connector for the liquid cooling leak detector instead.

A two-socket Dell PowerEdge R760xa configuration supports up to 32 DDR5 DIMMs, with a maximum RDIMM capacity of 8TB and speeds up to 4800 MT/s using registered ECC DDR5 DIMMs exclusively. Memory performance scales with DIMM population — 4800 MT/s at one DIMM per channel (1DPC), dropping to 4400 MT/s at two DIMMs per channel (2DPC).

The Dell PowerEdge R760xa (Gen16) offers two NIC support options — a LOM card or an OCP 3.0 slot — and the OCP slot can be populated regardless of whether the LOM is also selected.
Worth noting: installing an x16 card in the OCP 3.0 slot on this system board downgrades it to x8 due to platform limitations. Port count also differs between the two — the LOM tops out at two ports, while the OCP 3.0 slot supports cards with up to 4 ports.

As with most Dell systems, this server includes a boot option via 2x M.2 NVMe drives on the optional BOSS-N1 card.
The BOSS-N1 card carrier can be installed without powering down the system — a shutdown is only necessary when installing the BOSS-N1 controller card module itself.

Despite its roomy 2U chassis, the Dell PowerEdge R760xa is limited to 3 riser configurations, each containing 4 riser kits. Built with AI and machine learning workloads in mind, this rack server accommodates extensive GPU or DPU support.
