HPE DL580 Chassis Options | (48) Drives
The HPE DL580 Gen 10 has 8 Boxs and supports SAS/SATA and NVMe drives. The 8 NVMe Drive Cage can only be placed in Box 1, 2, or 3. Box 1 will only support NVMe drives 1-4, drive bays 5-8 are not functional. The max number of NVMe drives is (20) and you must have all 4 processors installed.
The Universal Media Bay (872267-B21) is not available with the 48 SFF front end, and can only be populated in Box 4. The media bay can support 2 NVMe via the optional 2 SFF premium kit (880121-B21). Not all configurations supporting the UMB 2SFF are shown. Primary 6-slot Riser (872336-B21) and/or Secondary and Tertiary 8-slot Riser (872338-B21) must be selected to support this option.
HPE Memory | (48) DIMMs
The HPE DL580 Gen 10 server is a 4 Socket, 48 DIMM system. But this can only be accomplished with the installation of the CPU Mezzanine Board Kit (872222-B21) or the v2 CPU Mezzanine Board Kit (P07991-B21). Both these kits provide 2 extra Processors and 24 Extra DIMMs. A CPU Mezzanine Board stacks on top of the processors in this 4U HPE Rack Server.

This server supports up to 6 TB of LRDIMM memory or 12 TB with HPE Persistent Memory in configurations using 2nd-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors. It features 48 DIMM slots (12 per processor). Memory speeds vary depending on the processor and configuration, with up to 2933 MT/s supported for certain setups. Note that mixing RDIMM and LRDIMM memory is not supported, and persistent memory is only compatible with 2nd-generation processors.

NVMe configurations
The HPE ProLiant DL580 Gen10 supports up to 20 NVMe drives for high-performance storage, achievable through specific configurations. To maximize NVMe capacity, you need the Primary NVMe Slimline Riser (878360-B21) and the Secondary and Tertiary 8-slot or 9-slot Risers (872338-B21 or 872340-B21), along with all four processors installed. Each NVMe port supports two drives, and the drive count depends on riser and processor configurations. For example, 8 NVMe drives can be placed in Boxes 2 and 3, while Boxes 1 and 4 may support additional drives with specific configurations like the Universal Media Bay (872267-B21).
Limitations include partial functionality in some configurations (e.g., only 4 NVMe drives active in Box 1 without a fourth processor) and the need for precise riser and drive bay setups to avoid non-optimal configurations.

HPE Smart Storage Controllers
The HPE Smart Array S100i SR Gen10 SW RAID operates exclusively in UEFI mode. For legacy support, an additional controller is required, and CTO orders should include the Legacy Mode Settings part (758959-B22). By default, the S100i SR RAID is disabled and must be manually enabled using the HPE FIO Enable Smart Array SW RAID option (784308-B21).
Only standup controllers are supported, with no support for AROC controllers. For configurations with up to 48 SFF drives, installation of both the 12Gb SAS Expander and the P824i-p Controller is necessary. If using Performance Smart Array controllers or Persistent Memory (Pmem DIMMs), an energy pack must be added. The system supports up to two HPE 96W Smart Storage Batteries (P01366-B21) with 145mm cable kits, which are sold separately and can support multiple devices (up to 24 per battery).
The DL580 Gen10 offers significant expansion capabilities with its 7-slot riser cage. However, its riser configuration is complex. The primary riser is essential, while the secondary riser, which includes a tertiary riser, can only be installed after the primary riser. This configuration limits the maximum number of risers to two. Importantly, internal storage controllers and SAS expanders are exclusively supported in the primary and tertiary risers, not the secondary.

HPE DL580 Gen10 GPU / Workload Accelerator
A maximum of four GPU cards can be supported, two in primary riser expansion slots (2 and 4) and another two in secondary riser expansion slots (9 and 11). A GPU bracket (P00268-B21) kit is needed to install GPUs in slots 4 and 11 and must be ordered along with the GPU cable kits 871829-B21 (for P40, V100). If more than 3 GPUs are selected, then 2 of the 8-pin Keyed Cable Kit (871829-B21) are required.
Primary riser expansion slots 2 and 4 are connected to Processor 3. Secondary riser expansion slots 9 and 11 are connected to Processor 4. This mandates a minimum of 3 processors for a 2 GPU configuration and 4 processors for a 4 GPU configuration.

Networking Abilities | FlexibleLOM
Networking flexibility is provided by FlexibleLOM adapters, supporting 1 Gb, 10 Gb, 25 Gb, or 100 Gb Ethernet options. Standard configurations include 4-port 1 Gb adapters or higher-performing 10/25 Gb adapters. Custom configurations with additional NIC cards are possible, but ensure compatibility with risers and slot availability.
The FlexibleLOM has a dedicated slot on the side of the system board. This frees up a PCIe slot for other components like GPUs, or controllers.

HPE Flexible Slot (Flex Slot) Power Supplies share a common electrical and physical design that allows for hot plug, tool-less installation into HPE ProLiant Gen10 Servers. Flex Slot power supplies are certified for high-efficiency operation and offer multiple power output options, allowing users to "right-size" a power supply for specific server configurations. This flexibility helps to reduce power waste, lower overall energy costs, and avoid "trapped" power capacity in the data center.
- 1 + 1 Redundancy—In a two-power supply configuration, the server will continue to operate if one power supply fails. This mode is not applicable in a four-power supply configuration.
- 2 + 2 Redundancy—In a four-power supply configuration, the server will continue to operate if two power supplies fail or if one AC feed loses power.
- 3 + 1 Redundancy—In a four-power supply configuration, the server will continue to operate if a single power supply fails. The server will initiate operating system shutdown if two power supplies fail. No AC power redundancy is possible.
- 4 + 0 Redundancy—In a four-power supply configuration, there is no power supply redundancy. The server consumes more power than what redundancy can supply, and will initiate operating system shutdown if one or more power supplies
