Scalable Performance In An Expandable 4U Form Factor
The HPE ProLiant DL580 Gen10 server provides 4P computing in an expandable 4U form factor and supports up to four Intel Xeon Platinum and Gold processors which provide up to 11% per-core performance gain [5] over the first generation of Intel Xeon Scalable processors.

HPE DL580 Gen10 Base Knowledge.
This is the first 4U Rack Server in the Gen10 Line. This DL580 Gen10 Rack Server like having two DL560 Gen10 Rack Servers put together. The front of the Rack server has 6 Boxes that can handle a variety of configurations. With support for up to 4 Processors when installing the V2 CPU Mezzanine Drive tray () while also supporting a total of 48 DDR4 DIMMs. With 3 PCIe Riser, you have a total of 16 PCIe slots to use. There are many different Risers to choose from please read below or the Quickspec manual below for more details.
LRDIMM and RDIMM are distinct memory technologies and cannot be mixed within a server as well as mixing of different processor models are not supported. Some Processors can only handle a certain amount of memory per core while others can handle more. Intel memory processors (with suffix M or suffix L) are needed for supporting more than 1 TB of memory per socket on 2nd generation processors.More than 1.5TB per socket requires the use of HPE Persistent Memory kits.
HPE Persistent Memory
The HPE Persistent Memory kits are required to support up to 2 TB on ‘M” processors and up to 4.5TB on ‘L’ processors. The HPE Persistent Memory cannot be supported in a 3P configuration and different capacities cannot be mixed within a server. A maximum of 6 HPE Persistent Memory kits per processor and a maximum of 24 kits are supported hosting 12TB of memory.

By default, the DL580 Gen10 Rack Server is shipped with 8SFF HDD Bay Kit (878366-B21). In Box 4 you have the option of installing the Universal Media Bay (872267-B21) which is not available with the 48 SFF front end. This Media Bay can support 1 ODD or 2 SFF with the installation of the SFF Premium HDD Front NVMe/SAS/SATA Kit (880121-B21).
There are no upgrades for cooling the server already comes with 12 Hot Plug Fans (with N+1 redundancy) and each processor comes with a heatsink designed for it. The DL580 Gen10 comes with the TPM 2.0 set as default, for 1.2 TPM setting instead, please select this option TPM 1.2 Setting (872108-B21).
NVMe configurations
The DL580 Gen10 has many options for supporting NVMe drive configurations. With a max of 16 NVMe drives supported in this system. There are some limitations and requirements that need to be focused on when installing NVMe drives. The NVMe drives are not supported by HPE Smart Array controllers and if you want to install all 16 NVMe drives. You will need to install the CPU Mezzanine Board Kit (872222-B21) so that you can install all 4 Processors. You then must install the 2x 4-port 16 NVMe Slimline Riser Kit (878360-B21). Below is a very long list of configurations you can do for the desired amount of NVMe drives your system requires.
Note: There are two ways to configure 20NVMe drives. The main thing you need to know is about Box 1. If you install an NVMe 8 SSD Express Bay (878362-B21), know that in Box 1, bays 1-4 are functional and bays 5-8 are not functional.
- 4 NVMe drives in Box 1, 8 NVMe drives in Box 2, and 8 NVMe drives in Box 3
- 2 NVMe drives in Box 1, 8 NVMe drives in Box 2, 8 NVMe drives in Box 3, and 2 NVMe drives in Box 4 using the Universal Media Bay (872267-B21).
HPE strongly encourages customers to choose an NVMe configuration based on processor quantity and desired maximum NVMe drive needs. Configuring the server based on the recommendations presented in the table below will help guide customers to solutions optimized for NVMe drives and PCIe slot counts.

HPE Smart Storage Controllers
HPE Smart Array S100i SR Gen10 SW RAID will operate in UEFI mode only. For legacy support an additional controller will be needed, and for CTO orders please also select the Legacy mode settings part, 758959-B22. HPE Smart Array S100i SR Gen10 SW RAID is off by default and must be enabled. For enabling, please select HPE FIO Enable Smart Array SW RAID (784308-B21).
Only standup controllers are supported and there is no support for (AROC) controllers. With support for up to 48 SFF Drives, you will need to install both the 12Gb SAS Expander and the P824i-p Controller. If you install a Performance Smart Array or Pmem DIMMS. You will need to also add an energy pack. The system can support up to 2 HPE 96W Smart Storage Battery (up to 24 Devices) with 145mm Cable Kit (P01366-B21), which supports multiple devices and is sold separately.
HPE DL580 Gen10 Plus Boot Drives.
Two different Boot Devices are supported with this system. The NS204i-p x2 Lanes NVMe PCIe3 x8 OS Boot Device (P12965-B21) and the 32GB microSD RAID 1 USB Boot Drive (P21868-B21). The NS204i-p holds two M.2 drives and is installed in a PCIe slot.
HPE DL580 Gen10 Plus PCI Risers
The DL580 has a massive 7 Slot Riser Cage for both the Primary and Secondary Risers. The tertiary riser cannot be ordered separately. The secondary riser is shipped with the tertiary riser and can be installed only after the primary riser has been installed. A maximum of 2 risers can be selected, 1 primary riser and another secondary riser (which includes a tertiary riser kit).
The internal storage controllers and SAS expanders are supported only in the primary and tertiary risers. Not supported in the secondary riser.

HPE DL380 Gen10 Plus GPU / Workload Accelerator
A maximum of four GPU cards can be supported, two in primary riser expansion slots (2 and 4) and another two in secondary riser expansion slots (9 and 11). A GPU bracket (P00268-B21) kit is needed to install GPUs in slots 4 and 11 and must be ordered along with the GPU cable kits 871829-B21 (for P40, V100). If more than 3 GPUs are selected, then 2 of the 8-pin Keyed Cable Kit (871829-B21) are required.
Primary riser expansion slots 2 and 4 are connected to Processor 3. Secondary riser expansion slots 9 and 11 are connected to Processor 4. This mandates a minimum of 3 processors for a 2 GPU configuration and 4 processors for a 4 GPU configuration.

Networking Abilities | OCP 3.0, Stand-up card
The HPE ProLiant DL580 Gen10 servers offer a flexible network technology - FlexibleLOMs, which offers customers a choice of 1 Gb, 10 Gb, 25 Gb or 10 Gb and 100Gb base-T Ethernet or converged networking in their embedded adapter. The FlexibleLOM has its own dedicated slot on the system board.
A range of NIC cards are also available to enhance networking capabilities. A minimum of two Gigabytes (2 GB) of server memory is required per adapter.
This system does not come with an embedded LOM so you must install a NIC.

HPE Flexible Slot (Flex Slot) Power Supplies share a common electrical and physical design that allows for hot plug, tool-less installation into HPE ProLiant Gen10 Servers. Flex Slot power supplies are certified for high-efficiency operation and offer multiple power output options, allowing users to "right-size" a power supply for specific server configurations. This flexibility helps to reduce power waste, lower overall energy costs, and avoid "trapped" power capacity in the data center.
- 1 + 1 Redundancy—In a two-power supply configuration, the server will continue to operate if one power supply fails. This mode is not applicable in a four-power supply configuration.
- 2 + 2 Redundancy—In a four-power supply configuration, the server will continue to operate if two power supplies fail or if one AC feed loses power.
- 3 + 1 Redundancy—In a four-power supply configuration, the server will continue to operate if a single power supply fails. The server will initiate operating system shutdown if two power supplies fail. No AC power redundancy is possible.
- 4 + 0 Redundancy—In a four-power supply configuration, there is no power supply redundancy. The server consumes more power than what redundancy can supply, and will initiate operating system shutdown if one or more power supplies
By default, the server is configured for 2 + 2 power redundancy.
