Base Knowledge
HPE DL60 Gen9 Rack Server is a 1U single or dual socket device. The Intel E5-2600v3 processor and the Intel E5-2600v4 processor are supported on the (847393-001) System board. There is no mixing of the Processors on a Dual Socket configuration. The one thing to note about a single to dual processor configuration is cooling. In a Single Socket configuration, the system comes standard with 3 non-redundant hot-swap fans, and with a total of 5 fans for redundancy. On a Dual Socket configuration, the system comes with 4 non-redundant hot-swap fans and a total of 6 Fans for redundancy. To support the redundant fan configuration you will need to install the Redundant Fan Option Kit (765513-B21).
To Hot-Swap or not!
Now that you got the single and dual socket configurations worked out. It’s time to check what kind of chassis we need. You can have either the Hot-Swap LFF or the Non-Hot-Swap LFF. A total of 4 SAS/SATA Drives can be installed. The Maximum Internal Storage for this server is as follows:
- Hot Plug LFF SAS 4 x 8TB = 32.0TB
- Hot Plug LFF SATA 4 x 8TB = 32.0TB
- Non-Hot-Plug LFF SATA 4 x 4TB = 16TB
- Hot Plug LFF SATA SSD 4 x 3.84TB = 15.36TB
PCI Risers
The DL60 Rack Server has 3 PCI-e 3.0 Slots. Expansion slot 1 can only be taken up by the CPU1 PCIe Riser Slot (765508-B21). While expansion slots 2 and 3 have two different butterfly risers that can be installed. If you’re looking to add networking ports to expand the abilities of this server with a FlexibleLOM card. You MUST choose the CPU1 FlexibleLOM Riser card (765509-B21). Slot 3 is dedicated to the FlexibleLOM card, while Slot 2 is a PCI-e 3.0x8 Low Profile. If you do not plan on installing an expansion FlexibleLOM card but still want to access the expansion slots 2 and 3. You will need to install the CPU1 riser PCIe Card (765510-B21) which has (2) PCI-e 3.0x8 slots. Slot 2 is LP, and Slot 3 is FH/HL.
Storage Controllers
The (Standard) Dynamic Smart Array B140i Controller provides support for up to 4 SATA drives on DL60 Gen9 and supports RAID 0, 1, 1 + 0 & 5. The B140i is only available in the default UEFI Boot Mode. It cannot be enabled in Legacy BIOS Boot Mode ( 758959 -B22). If the B140i controller is disabled, drives connected to the system board Mini-SAS connectors operate in Advanced Host Controller Interface ( AHCI) ( 801845 -B21) or Legacy mode ( 758959 -B22). If you desire the Legacy Mode or the Advanced Host Controller Interface Mode. Please select these on the CTO section below called “Server Management iLO”.
If you need to expand the drive support from SATA to SAS, from Internal to External. The P440, and P441 Performance Smart Storage Array, or H240, and H241 Host Bus Adapters will do the trick. The performance smart storage arrays need the HP 96W Smart Storage Battery with 145mm Cable for DL/ML/SL Servers (727258-B21 ) for the Flash Back Write Cache to work properly. There is no need for a holder kit this time, the system board comes with a dedicated spot and clips already.
Let’s talk power!
Above we talked about how the performance smart arrays need the Smart Array battery for FBWC. The default PSU for the DL60 is a 550W Non-Hot-Plug PSU with the option to upgrade to the 900W Redundant Power Supply Unit (PSU) ( 775595-B21 ). If you upgrade to a redundant power supply configuration, you will need the following.
- HPE 900W Standard AC 240VDC RPS Power Backplane (814835-B21)
- HPE 900W Standard AC 240VDC Power Input Module (775595-B21)
- RPS Power Backplane supports (2) RPSU
You can make things easier by installing the RPSU Kit (820792-B21) that comes with (2) 900W PSUs and the Backplane.
