Dell PowerEdge XE9712

The Dell PowerEdge XE9712 is a 1U, liquid-cooled compute tray for Dell's IR9048 rack, where trays link over NVLink into an NVIDIA GB300 NVL72 system of up to 72 Blackwell Ultra GPUs for LLM training and inference. Each tray pairs two 72-core NVIDIA Grace CPUs and 960GB of LPDDR5X with up to four Blackwell Ultra GPUs carrying 288GB of HBM3e each. Cold plates tie into the rack's liquid loop, and power comes from the rack busbar. Fully configurable.

Frequently Asked Questions

It is a 1U compute tray built for Dell's IR9048 rack, not a self-contained server. It has no power supplies of its own and is cooled through the rack's liquid manifold, so it runs inside an IR9048 ORv3 rack with power shelves, a coolant distribution unit and NVLink switch trays. Together those trays form an NVIDIA GB300 NVL72 system with up to 72 Blackwell Ultra GPUs. We can quote single trays as spares or expansion for an existing rack, or help you plan a complete rack.

Each tray holds two NVIDIA GB300 boards. Together they provide two NVIDIA Grace CPUs with 72 cores each, running at up to 3.6 GHz, and up to four Blackwell Ultra GPUs. Each Grace CPU has 480GB of LPDDR5X ECC memory soldered to the board, and each GPU has 288GB of HBM3e. CPUs and GPUs share coherent memory over 900GB/s NVLink-C2C, so there are no DIMM slots to upgrade.

The front takes up to eight hot-swap EDSFF E1.S NVMe SSDs, plus one M.2 2280 NVMe SSD on a riser for the OS, with no RAID. Two ConnectX-8 mezzanine cards give four 800Gb/s OSFP ports for the GPU scale-out fabric, and up to two front PCIe Gen5 x16 slots take a BlueField-3 B3240 DPU or ConnectX-8 cards. There is also a 1GbE LOM, a dedicated management port, USB 3.0 and Mini-DisplayPort. Please specify your fabric and capacity needs when you submit your quote configuration.

CPU and GPU cold plates carry the heat away through quick-disconnect couplings to the rack's liquid manifold, and a coolant distribution unit in the rack or row exchanges it with the facility loop. Eight fans cool the remaining parts, and leak sensors sit along the internal manifold. Power comes as 54V DC from the rack busbar, fed by 33kW power shelves that each hold six 5500W PSUs. Management is OpenBMC, with an iDRAC10 version also offered, and Dell lists GraceOS and Ubuntu as operating systems.

Both are Gen 17 AI platforms built around NVIDIA Blackwell Ultra GPUs, ConnectX-8 OSFP networking and iDRAC10 management. The XE9780 is a self-contained 10U air-cooled server with two Intel Xeon 6 CPUs, up to 4TB of DDR5 RDIMMs, eight HGX B300 or B200 GPUs and its own twelve PSUs. The XE9712 is a 1U liquid-cooled tray with two NVIDIA Grace CPUs, soldered LPDDR5X and up to four GPUs, and it depends on the IR9048 rack for power, cooling and NVLink, which joins up to 72 GPUs per rack.
