Dell PowerEdge XE9680L

The Dell PowerEdge XE9680L is a 4U dual-socket, direct liquid-cooled GPU server that packs eight NVIDIA GPUs into a denser chassis than the air-cooled XE9680, built for LLM training, fine-tuning and inference, recommendation engines and HPC work like molecular dynamics. It takes eight NVIDIA HGX B200 180GB 1000W SXM6 or H200 141GB 700W SXM5 GPUs fully linked by NVLink, with two 5th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors with up to 64 cores each and 32 DDR5 RDIMM slots for up to 4TB at up to 5600 MT/s. Up to 8x 2.5" U.2 NVMe SSDs, BOSS-N1 boot and up to twelve PCIe Gen5 x16 slots handle storage and networking. CPUs, GPUs and NVLink switches are liquid cooled, with twelve hot-swap fans, six Titanium PSUs and iDRAC9. Fully configurable.

Frequently Asked Questions

Eight NVIDIA HGX B200 180GB SXM6 GPUs at 1000W or eight NVIDIA HGX H200 141GB SXM5 GPUs at 700W, fully interconnected with NVIDIA NVLink.

Two 5th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors with up to 64 cores and 350W each, and 32 DDR5 RDIMM slots for up to 4TB. Memory runs at up to 5600 MT/s with one DIMM per channel and 4400 MT/s with two.

Up to eight 2.5-inch U.2 NVMe SSDs wired directly to the PCIe switch board, BOSS-N1 with two M.2 SSDs for boot, and up to twelve PCIe Gen5 x16 slots, two of them intended for NICs, SmartNICs or DPUs. Please specify your capacity needs when you submit your quote configuration.

Its CPUs, GPUs and NVLink switches are direct liquid cooled, so it needs a rack liquid-cooling setup; Dell lists the IR5000 rack as required. Six fans on the top layer and six on the bottom layer cool the rest. Six Titanium PSUs run in 5+1 or 3+3 redundancy: 3000W units with B200 GPUs and 2800W with H200.

The XE9680L moves eight NVIDIA GPUs from a 6U air-cooled chassis into 4U with direct liquid cooling, adds the B200 option and goes up to twelve PCIe Gen5 slots. The air-cooled XE9680 also offers AMD MI300X and Intel Gaudi 3 accelerators, 4th Gen Xeon support, SAS/SATA drives and up to 16 E3.S bays.
