Dell PowerEdge R720

The Dell PowerEdge R720 is a 2U dual-socket rack server built on Intel Xeon E5-2600 and E5-2600 v2 processors with up to 12 cores per CPU. It offers 24 DDR3 DIMM slots (up to 768GB), up to 7 PCIe 3.0 slots, support for up to two GPU accelerators, and flexible storage with up to 16x 2.5" or 8x 3.5" hot-plug drives. The predecessor to the R730, it remains a dependable, low-cost refurbished platform for virtualization, databases, VDI and HPC. Fully configurable.

We custom-configure the R720 with 8 x 3.5-inch, 8 x 2.5-inch or 16 x 2.5-inch SAS/SATA hot-plug drives (HDD or SSD). The 2.5-inch chassis can also take up to four front-access Express Flash PCIe SSDs (8 x 2.5-inch + 4 x Express Flash), and an optional internal dual SD module is available for mirrored hypervisor boot. Please specify your capacity and performance requirements when submitting your quote configuration.

The R720 runs Intel Xeon E5-2600 or E5-2600 v2 processors with up to 12 cores, 24 DDR3 DIMM slots at up to 1866 MT/s (768GB max) and iDRAC7. The R730 moves to Xeon E5-2600 v3/v4 with up to 22 cores, DDR4 at up to 2400 MT/s (3TB max) and iDRAC8. Both offer up to 7 PCIe 3.0 slots in 2U, and the R720 remains a low-cost choice for proven workloads.

The R720 has 24 DDR3 DIMM slots supporting UDIMMs, RDIMMs and LRDIMMs at up to 1866 MT/s with E5-2600 v2 processors. It holds up to 768GB with 32GB RDIMMs or LRDIMMs in a dual-processor configuration.

The R720 supports up to two double-wide 300W GPUs or four single-wide 150W GPUs for compute workloads. GPU configurations require two processors (115W or less), redundant 1100W power supplies and the GPU enablement kit; two double-wide GPUs also need the optional riser 3.

It supports dual Intel Xeon E5-2600/E5-2600 v2 processors (up to 12 cores each with v2), 24 DDR3 DIMM slots (up to 768GB RAM) and up to 7 PCIe 3.0 expansion slots in a 2U chassis.
