Dell PowerEdge R220

The Dell PowerEdge R220 is a short-depth 1U single-socket rack server, just 15.5" deep, made for tight spaces such as offices, closets and branch sites. It runs one Intel Xeon E3-1200 v3 processor (or a Pentium, Celeron or Core chip) with four DDR3 UDIMM slots for up to 32GB at 1600 MT/s, holds two 3.5" or two 2.5" drives plus a slim optical drive, and adds one PCIe 3.0 x16 slot, dual 1GbE ports and optional iDRAC7. Fully configurable.

It takes a single processor from the Intel Xeon E3-1200 v3 family, with Pentium, Celeron and Core options for lighter or budget builds, on the Intel C222 chipset.

Four DDR3 unbuffered DIMM sockets support 4GB to 32GB in total, at speeds up to 1600 MT/s.

The chassis holds two drives, either 3.5-inch SATA, SAS or nearline SAS or 2.5-inch SAS, nearline SAS or SSD, plus one slim optical drive. RAID options include PERC S110 and H310. Please specify your capacity needs when you submit your quote configuration.

Its chassis is only about 15.5 inches deep and runs at quiet office noise levels, so it fits shallow racks and shared spaces. Five USB ports and an optional iDRAC7 make it easy to manage.

The Gen 13 R230 moves to Xeon E3-1200 v6 processors and DDR4-2400 memory, doubles maximum RAM to 64GB, adds a second PCIe slot and room for four 3.5-inch drives, and uses iDRAC8. It is a deeper 19.5-inch chassis. Dell's R230 spec sheet was used for the R230 column.
