Dell PowerEdge R730xd

The Dell PowerEdge R730xd is a 2U two-socket rack server designed for large internal storage. It runs up to two Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 or v4 processors and 24 DDR4 DIMM slots (up to 3TB with LRDIMMs, at up to 2400 MT/s). Storage options reach 26x 2.5" drives including PCIe SSDs, 16x 3.5" plus 2x 2.5", or 18x 1.8" SSDs plus 8x 3.5". It adds up to six PCIe 3.0 slots plus a PERC slot, a network daughter card and six hot-swap fans, managed by iDRAC8. Fully configurable.

It has 24 DDR4 DIMM sockets for up to 768GB with RDIMMs or up to 3TB with LRDIMMs, running at up to 2400 MT/s depending on processor and population.

Configurations include up to 24 front plus 2 rear 2.5-inch drives (with PCIe SSD support), 12 front 3.5-inch plus a 4x 3.5-inch mid tray and 2 rear 2.5-inch bays, or 18 front 1.8-inch SSDs with 8x 3.5-inch drives. Please specify your capacity needs when you submit your quote configuration.

Both share the same dual E5-2600 v3/v4 platform and 24 DIMM slots, but the xd variant trades a PCIe slot for much denser storage: up to 26 SFF or 18 LFF-class drives versus 16x 2.5-inch or 8x 3.5-inch on the R730.

The Gen 14 R740xd moves to Xeon Scalable with faster 2933 MT/s memory, adds NVDIMM and Optane persistent memory, NVMe across front, mid and rear bays, GPU and FPGA options, up to 8 PCIe slots, 25GbE and iDRAC9. Dell's R740xd spec sheet was used for the R740xd column.
