The HPE ProLiant DL60 Gen9 Server is a compact 1U server designed to meet the needs of cost-conscious service providers and SMBs. It delivers optimal performance and density for file and print, messaging, collaboration, and cloud environments. Key features include up to four LFF HPE SmartDrives, dual Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3/v4 processors, and eight DDR4 SmartMemory DIMM slots.
Additionally, the DL60 Gen9 prioritizes energy efficiency with 92% 80 PLUS Gold-certified redundant power supplies and support for HPE Extended Ambient Operating Support (ASHRAE A3). Flexible networking options, including an embedded 2 x 1GbE Ethernet adapter and up to three PCIe slots, ensure future-proofing. The server's simple design and HPE infrastructure management tools further enhance efficiency and reduce management overhead.

The HPE ProLiant DL60 Gen9 is a compact 1U server supporting single or dual Intel Xeon E5-2600v3/v4 processors. The system board (847393-001) does not allow mixing processor generations. Note that cooling requirements differ between single and dual-processor configurations. Single-processor systems use 3 non-redundant or 5 redundant fans, while dual-processor systems require 4 non-redundant or 6 redundant fans. To enable redundant fans on a dual-processor system, the Redundant Fan Option Kit (765513-B21) is necessary.
To Hot-Swap or not!
Now that you got the single and dual socket configurations worked out. It’s time to check what kind of chassis we need. You can have either the Hot-Swap LFF or the Non-Hot-Swap LFF. A total of 4 SAS/SATA Drives can be installed. The Maximum Internal Storage for this server is as follows:
- Hot Plug LFF SAS 4 x 8TB = 32.0TB
- Hot Plug LFF SATA 4 x 8TB = 32.0TB
- Non-Hot-Plug LFF SATA 4 x 4TB = 16TB
- Hot Plug LFF SATA SSD 4 x 3.84TB = 15.36TB
PCI Risers | (3) PCIe Slots
The DL60 Rack Server offers three PCI-e 3.0 slots. Slot 1 is exclusively for the CPU1 PCIe Riser Slot (765508-B21). Slots 2 and 3 accommodate different butterfly risers. To add networking ports with a FlexibleLOM card, the CPU1 FlexibleLOM Riser card (765509-B21) is required, designating Slot 3 for the FlexibleLOM and Slot 2 for a PCI-e 3.0x8 Low Profile card. If no FlexibleLOM card is needed, the CPU1 riser PCIe Card (765510-B21) provides two PCI-e 3.0x8 slots (one low profile and one full-height/half-length).

Storage Controllers
The DL60 Gen9's B140i controller supports up to four SATA drives in RAID modes 0, 1, 1+0, or 5. It only works with UEFI Boot Mode. If you need Legacy BIOS or AHCI, the controller must be disabled, and drives will operate in the selected mode when connected to the system board Mini-SAS connectors. Choose the desired mode during configuration.
To expand drive support beyond internal SATA, consider using P440/P441 Smart Storage Arrays or H240/H241 Host Bus Adapters for SAS and external storage. For optimal performance with P440/P441, add the HP 96W Smart Storage Battery (727258-B21) to enable Flash Back Write Cache. No additional hardware is needed as the system board has dedicated slots.
Let’s talk power!
Above we talked about how the performance smart arrays need the Smart Array battery for FBWC. The default PSU for the DL60 is a 550W Non-Hot-Plug PSU with the option to upgrade to the 900W Redundant Power Supply Unit (PSU) ( 775595-B21 ). If you upgrade to a redundant power supply configuration, you will need the following.
- HPE 900W Standard AC 240VDC RPS Power Backplane (814835-B21)
- HPE 900W Standard AC 240VDC Power Input Module (775595-B21)
- RPS Power Backplane supports (2) RPSU
You can make things easier by installing the RPSU Kit (820792-B21) that comes with (2) 900W PSUs and the Backplane.
