HPE ProLiant BL460c Gen8 is a dual-socket server blade, which packs in more performance. With a 33% increase in memory DIMM count, Intel Xeon E5-2600 processor, faster I/O slots and enhanced Smart Array Controller that no W ships With 512MB Flash Back Write Cache (FBWC) standard. In addition, it is also more flexible. With the HPE FlexibleLOM which provides the ability to customize server net working today and the ability to meet future needs without over hauling server hardware.

The HPE ProLiant BL460c Gen8 supports one or two Intel Xeon E5-2600 series processors, offering options for enhanced performance with Intel® Hyper-Threading and Intel® Turbo Boost technologies (except for certain models like the E5-2603 and E5-2609). These processors require identical models in both slots and do not support mixed configurations. Memory compatibility and speed depend on the processor model; for example, DIMM slots 4 and 5 are unavailable with higher-end models like the E5-2690. Additionally, the server includes two I/O mezzanine expansion slots, with each slot accessible only if a processor is installed in the corresponding processor slot.
- Supports up to two identical Intel Xeon E5-2600 processors (no mixing models).
- Hyper-Threading and Turbo Boost are available on most models.
- High-end processors limit access to DIMM slots 4 and 5.
- Memory speed and voltage vary by processor; some models don’t support 1.35V.
- Two I/O mezzanine slots, each requiring an active processor for access.
Each Intel® Xeon® E5-2600 family or Intel® Xeon® E5-2600 family processor socket contains four memory channels that support two DIMMs each for a total of eight (8) DIMM per installed processor or a grand total of sixteen (16) DIMMs for the server. Up to 32GB capacity DIMMs are supported for 512GB of memory (16 DIMM slots x 32GB per DIMM).
Memory Rules and Guidelines:
- A minimum of one DIMM is required per processor.
- Install DIMMs only if the corresponding processor is installed.
- If only one processor is installed in a two-processor system, only half of the DIMM slots are available
- DIMM sizes can be mixed in channel.
- DIMMs of different speeds may be mixed
- LRDIMM, RDIMM, and UDIMMs cannot be mixed.
The HPE server features two I/O expansion mezzanine slots: Expansion Slot 1 is a x16 PCIe 3.0 Type A slot that supports dual-port mezzanine cards, with one port routed to interconnect module bay 3 and the other to bay 4. Expansion Slot 2 is a x16 PCIe 3.0 Type B slot, compatible with both Type A and Type B mezzanine cards. This slot supports dual-port and quad-port mezzanine cards—dual-port cards route one port each to bays 5 and 6, while quad-port cards route to bays 5, 6, 7, and 8. Note that Expansion Slot 2 requires a second processor to be installed for activation.

FlexibleLOM: Provides basic, customizable external network connectivity, allowing the blade to communicate with the outside network through the enclosure’s interconnect bays.
