Dell PowerEdge R940xa

The Dell PowerEdge R940xa is a 4U four-socket server that pairs CPU power with GPU acceleration for database, analytics and AI work. It runs up to four 2nd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors with up to 28 cores each and takes up to four double-width GPUs, matching one GPU to each CPU. 48 DDR4 DIMM slots hold up to 6TB at 2933 MT/s (more with Optane persistent memory), and the front can hold up to 32x 2.5" drives with up to 4 NVMe. Up to 12 PCIe Gen3 slots, an NDC for networking and iDRAC9 complete it. Fully configurable.

Up to four Intel Xeon Scalable processors. With 2nd Gen parts that means up to 28 cores per socket and up to 112 cores in total.

Up to four double-width GPUs, or up to four double-width or eight single-width FPGAs, installed in the x16 riser slots.

Forty-eight DDR4 sockets support up to 6TB of RDIMM or LRDIMM memory at up to 2933 MT/s. It can also take up to 24 Optane persistent memory modules, although they cannot be combined with GPUs.

Front bays take 8, 24 or 32 2.5-inch SAS/SATA drives, with up to four NVMe SSDs, plus BOSS M.2 boot. Please specify your capacity needs when you submit your quote configuration.

The Gen 16 R960 moves to 4th Gen Xeon Scalable, DDR5-4800 memory up to 16TB, PCIe Gen5 and up to 24 NVMe drives, and still takes four double-width GPUs. The R940xa offers a similar 4-CPU, 4-GPU layout at a lower cost.
