Select Chassis

Only the 8SFF Chassis can support extra drive cages in the front.
This is why you do not see a 16 Bay Chassis. The 16 Bay Chassis is actually (8 Bay + 8 Bay).
You can mix and match the 8 Bay Backplanes together in one Chassis.
Only the 24 Bay and the 12 Bay can support rear drives.
If rear drives are installed GPUs are not supported.

Heat sinks / Fans / Cooling Modules

Rear Drive Options

AMD 9004 Series EPYC 4th Gen

The Dell PowerEdge R7625 rack server supports up to two 4th Generation AMD EPYC 9004 Series processors, with up to 128 cores per processor for enterprise-grade performance. Enhanced processing efficiency comes from 32MB of L3 cache per core, while integrated I/O supports up to 128 PCIe Gen5 lanes on Dell platforms (AMD supports up to 160 I/O lanes in 2P configurations) — making this high-performance server solution ideal for HPC workloads.

Cooling Options

The Dell PowerEdge R7625 offers two cooling options for its AMD processors: air cooling or Direct Liquid Cooling (DLC). Air-cooled configurations support up to six high-performance Silver or Gold hot-plug fans. GPU configurations require Gold fans paired with an L-Type heat sink, as the Standard heat sink is too tall for GPU clearance.

Direct Liquid Cooling (DLC)

Optional Direct Liquid Cooling (DLC) is required for certain CPU SKUs and configurations on the Dell PowerEdge R7625. Systems with DLC installed and a 12-bay chassis require Gold fans, and any processor with a 400W TDP must use DLC for proper thermal management. DIMM type and chassis configuration should be verified before installing DLC, as not all systems support it. Refer to the technical manual and Thermal Restriction Matrix for complete rules, limitations, and configuration guidance.

Dell PowerEdge R7626 DIMMs

The Dell PowerEdge R7625 supports up to 24 DIMMs (12 per socket), with up to 6TB of total memory and speeds up to 4800 MT/s.

The Dell PowerEdge R7625 supports registered DIMMs (RDIMMs), which use a buffer to reduce memory loading and enable greater density — allowing the platform to reach its maximum memory capacity. Unbuffered DIMMs (UDIMMs) are not supported.


Memory Guidelines
  • Supports registered ECC DDR5 DIMMs only
  • DDR4 DIMM memory is not supported.
  • Memory DIMM slots are not hot-pluggable.
  • Do not mix DIMM module types within a memory channel
  • All must be RDIMM or 3DS RDIMM module types with same ECC configuration.
  • Do not mix x4 and x8 DIMMs with a memory channel.

GPU Support

The Dell PowerEdge R7625 supports up to two double-wide 300W GPUs or six single-wide 75W accelerators, with High-Performance Gold fans required across all GPU configurations. GPU support is not available on 12x3.5" configurations or systems with a rear drive module installed. Rear drive support is limited to two options: the 12 LFF and 24 SFF chassis configurations.

Storage Controllers
