Dell PowerEdge R420

The Dell PowerEdge R420 is a 1U two-socket rack server that brings dual-processor power to space-limited racks at a value price. It runs up to two Intel Xeon E5-2400 or E5-2400 v2 processors with up to 10 cores each, 12 DDR3 DIMM slots for up to 384GB at 1600 MT/s, and up to eight 2.5" or four 3.5" drives. Two PCIe 3.0 slots, dual 1GbE, hot-plug redundant power and iDRAC7 complete the package. Fully configurable.

Up to two Intel Xeon E5-2400 or E5-2400 v2 processors, with 4 to 10 cores per socket, linked by QPI on the Intel C602 chipset.

Twelve DDR3 DIMM sockets take registered or unbuffered modules, for up to 384GB at speeds up to 1600 MT/s.

Choose four 3.5-inch cabled bays, four 3.5-inch hot-plug bays (2.5-inch hybrid carriers available) or eight 2.5-inch hot-plug bays, with PERC S110, H310, H710 or H710P. Please specify your capacity needs when you submit your quote configuration.

Both are 1U dual-socket servers, but the R420 is the value model with E5-2400 processors, 12 DIMM slots and two PCIe slots. The R620 steps up to E5-2600 processors, 24 DIMM slots for 768GB, up to 10 drives and a choice of network daughter cards.

The Gen 13 R430 moves to Xeon E5-2600 v3/v4 processors with up to 20 cores and DDR4-2400 memory, adds a 10-drive 2.5-inch option and four 1GbE ports, and uses iDRAC8. Both keep 12 DIMM slots (384GB) and two PCIe 3.0 slots.
