The HPE ProLiant BL460c (G9) Server Blade now offers Intel Xeon E5-2600 v4 processors with up to 21% bin-to-bin performance gain over the previous generation, plus 2400 MT/s HPE DDR4 SmartMemory offering up to 33% higher throughput. Additional support includes tiered storage controller options, 12 Gb/s SAS, 20 Gb HPE FlexibleLOMs, support for M.2, NVMe, and HPE ProLiant Persistent Memory options.

HPE ProLiant BL460c (G9) Server Blade provides the flexibility to optimize users core IT applications with right-sized storage for the right workload for a lower TCO. All of this is managed by HPE OneView, the converged management platform that accelerates IT service delivery and boosts business performance.
The HPE ProLiant BL460c (G9) supports up to two processors, but all processors within the server must be identical, as mixing different processor models is not supported. The server also includes two I/O mezzanine expansion slots to enhance connectivity. However, access to these slots depends on the processor configuration—Expansion Slot 1 requires a processor installed in Processor Slot 1, while Expansion Slot 2 requires a processor in Processor Slot 2. This design ensures scalability and flexibility for high-performance workloads while maintaining compatibility requirements.

The HPE ProLiant BL460c (G9) server exclusively supports DDR4 memory, rendering DDR3 memory from previous-generation servers incompatible. It offers support for both LRDIMM and RDIMM technologies; however, these two memory types cannot be mixed within the same server. Furthermore, 128GB DIMMs cannot be combined with other DIMM capacities, ensuring a consistent memory configuration. With a two-socket configuration, the server provides access to 16 DIMM slots, delivering robust scalability and performance for demanding workloads.

The server comes standard with the HPE Smart Array B140i Controller (chipset SATA), which supports two internal SATA drives. If RAID is required, the HPE FIO B140i RAID Enable Kit (784308-B21) must be selected. For configurations involving a PCI expansion blade or a D2220sb storage blade, the HPE Smart Array P246br Controller is necessary to enable proper functionality.
NVMe DrivesThe HPE ProLiant BL460c (G9) server requires the HPE (G9) Broadwell NVMe FIO Setting (825555-B21) to support SFF NVMe SSDs. However, this option is incompatible with the HPE Smart Array P244br, P246br, and H244br controllers. For systems using this setting, HPE recommends a dual M.2 solid-state drive (797905-001 or 846757-001) kit for boot purposes.

HPE FlexibleLOM provides the ability to customize server networking today and the ability to meet future needs without overhauling server hardware. Provides choice of bandwidth and fabric (Ethernet, FCoE, InfiniBand), supports WOL, and provides a shared iLO port for ease of use.
The server requires one (1) FlexibleLOM that is installed in the FlexibleLOM connectors. All FlexibleLOMs are dual port: One port is routed to interconnect module bay 1 and the other to bay 2.
FlexibleLOM: Provides basic, customizable external network connectivity, allowing the blade to communicate with the outside network through the enclosure’s interconnect bays. Each port is autosensing the speed, and can interoperate with 1Gb HPE BladeSystem c-Class interconnect components. Both ports will operate at the same speed.

The HPE server features two I/O expansion mezzanine slots: Expansion Slot 1 is a x16 PCIe 3.0 Type A slot that supports dual-port mezzanine cards, with one port routed to interconnect module bay 3 and the other to bay 4. Expansion Slot 2 is a x16 PCIe 3.0 Type B slot, compatible with both Type A and Type B mezzanine cards. This slot supports dual-port and quad-port mezzanine cards—dual-port cards route one port each to bays 5 and 6, while quad-port cards route to bays 5, 6, 7, and 8. Note that Expansion Slot 2 requires a second processor to be installed for activation.
