A high-performance four-socket, 2U rack server, the Dell EMC PowerEdge R830 is designed for scalable database applications and dense virtualization deployments.
With up to 16 x 2.5-inch SSDs or HDDs and up to 3TB of DDR4 memory in 48 DIMMs, the R830 seamlessly scales to optimize workloads and maximize the CPU, making it an ideal foundation for scale-out four-socket workloads and dense virtualization deployments. The R830 also boasts an 80% increase in computational power over its predecessor, the R820.
Versatility
The Dell EMC PowerEdge R830 is a high-performance, four-socket, 2U rack server designed for scalable database applications and dense virtualization deployments. With its extreme processing power and massive memory density of up to 3TB, the R830 is capable of managing data overload and expanding virtual environments in medium to large-sized enterprises.
Scalable, balanced performance
Featuring the Intel Xeon processor E5-4600 v4 product family, with up to 22 cores per processor, the R830 is capable of handling compute-intensive workloads such as enterprise resource planning, data warehousing, e-commerce, Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, databases, and data node high performance computing. The server also supports up to 48 DDR4 DIMMS, up to 16 SSDs or traditional HDDs, and PCI Express NVMe Storage on Slot 6-10 for maximum I/O capabilities.
Scalable, balanced performance
The R830 is highly versatile, making it an ideal platform for a variety of compute-intensive, memory-bound, or I/O-centric workloads. Its resources can be fine-tuned to maximize application performance, making it adaptable to various applications such as Oracle RAC or Microsoft SQL. The server also features redundant embedded hypervisors that ensure uptime for fail-safe virtualization deployments.
The R830 supports up to four processors with up to 22 cores per processor. Your system supports two or four processor configurations. A cooling shroud is present only in a two-processor system. In a four-processor system, the cooling shroud is replaced by a processor expansion module (PEM).
A processor expansion module (PEM) is present only in systems with four processors. This PEM sits on top of the 2 Sockets installed on the system board.
NOTE: To use the PCIe slots 1 ,2, 4, and 5 on the risers, processors 1 and 2 must be installed. The expansion-card slots are not hot-swappable.

Boot Options - IDSDMIDSDM can be used as a dedicated boot device for the server's operating system. This is particularly useful in virtualized environments and with hypervisors like VMware ESXi, where a lightweight and dedicated boot device is advantageous.
Network daughter cardThe Network daughter card (NDC) is a small, removable mezzanine card. The NDC provides you with the flexibility of choosing different network connectivity options, for example—4 x 1GbE, 2 x 10GbE and 2 x Converged Network Adapter.
