The Dell PowerEdge R640 is a dual-socket 1U rack server built for dense scale-out data center computing, running up to two 2nd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors with up to 28 cores each. It offers 24 DDR4 DIMM slots (up to 3TB at up to 2933 MT/s, with up to 12 Intel Optane PMem or NVDIMM), three PCIe Gen3 x16 slots, up to three single-width GPUs such as the NVIDIA T4, and up to 10x 2.5" drives (up to 10 NVMe) or 4x 3.5" drives. Managed by iDRAC9, it suits virtualization, VSAN ready nodes and NVMe cache-heavy applications. Fully configurable.

Dell's spec sheet lists up to two 2nd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors with up to 28 cores per processor. Tell us your core count and clock speed needs and we will configure the R640 to match.

It has 24 DDR4 DIMM slots supporting RDIMM and LRDIMM at up to 2933 MT/s, for up to 3TB. Up to 12 slots can hold NVDIMMs (192GB max) or Intel Optane persistent memory (6.14TB max, or 7.68TB with PMem plus LRDIMM). Only registered ECC DDR4 DIMMs are supported.

Front options are up to 10x 2.5-inch SAS/SATA drives with up to 8 NVMe SSDs, up to 10x NVMe drives, or up to 4x 3.5-inch SAS/SATA drives. Up to two rear 2.5-inch drives can be added, and BOSS provides mirrored M.2 boot. Please specify your capacity needs when you submit your quote configuration.

Yes. It supports up to three single-width GPUs, such as the NVIDIA T4, or up to one FPGA, in its three PCIe Gen3 x16 slots.

The R650 moves from 2nd Gen to 3rd Gen Xeon Scalable processors (up to 40 cores vs 28), from 24 to 32 DIMM slots at 3200 MT/s, from PCIe Gen3 to Gen4, and from rNDC networking to 2x 1GbE LOM plus OCP 3.0, and adds optional processor liquid cooling. The R640 remains a cost-effective 1U option with the same 10x 2.5-inch or 4x 3.5-inch front bays.
