Rugged certifications and specifications

The PowerEdge XR12 supports the rugged environment space for temperatures up to 55°C through custom configurations. These configurations are geared for the Telecom (or Telco) and Military industries and hence meet industry-specific standards in addition to the maximum temperature requirement of 55°C. The Telco configurations will be tested to the NEBS requirements outlined in the GR-63 and GR-1089 Telcordia specifications. The Military configurations will be tested to: MIL-STD-810H, MIL-DTL-901E and MIL-STD-461G.

This server has a unique piece called the MIL 901E and MIL 461G rugged kit. It has a few pieces that make this kit. From holders in the PCIe slots for half and full-height cards, a foam strip for the M.2 Boss card, a PSU Bracket along with a drive bracket that sits like a bezel just for the drives.

Please read the manuals below for more detailed information about the Dell PowerEdge XR12 Rugged Rack Server.

Chassis Options

The XR12 only has one type of heat sink and must have all 6 High-Performance fans installed. The big difference is what access type you have picked. This front or rear access will determine where the fans are placed and what direction the fans go. If the Fans are in the front of the system (Rear Access). This means the air will be pushed into the system toward the back where the drives and PSU are. Likewise, the other options would have the fans installed in the rear of the system (Front Access). This means the fans will pull air from the front of the system to the back of the system.

The front access XR12 has 6 High-performance fan modules in the rear of the server pulling air from the front to the back.

Image of the Rear Access Configuration of the XR12 Rack Server Rear Access

The rear access XR12 has 6 High-performance fan modules in the front of the server pushing air from the front to the back.

Notes: The Dell XR12 systems can not be changed from a front access to a rear access. Please make sure you have the correct style you desire.

Memory

The PowerEdge XR12 system supports DDR4 registered DIMMs (RDIMMs), load reduced DIMMs (LRDIMMs) and Intel Optane PMem 200 Series. Mixing RDIMM and LRDIMM is not supported. Mixing of more than two memory module capacities in a system is not supported.

Power & Dimensions
Power Supply Units

When installing PSUs please keep in mind the airflow direction.

  • Reverse airflow design for use in Front Accessed chassis configurations (Blue)
  • Normal airflow design for use in Rear Accessed chassis configurations (Red)

This Dell PowerEdge XR12 server supports the hot spare feature of the PSU. This PSU feature significantly reduces the power overhead associated with redundancy.

When the hot spare feature is enabled, one of the redundant PSUs is switched to the sleep state. The active PSU supports 100 percent of the system load, thus operating at higher efficiency. The PSU in the sleep state monitors output voltage of the active PSU. If the output voltage of the active PSU drops, the PSU in the sleep state returns to an active output state.
