LOM Risers

Two onboard 1Gbps NIC ports come standard on the back panel of the Dell EMC PowerEdge R540, with two additional optional NIC ports available through the following LOM options:

  • The System comes with Two 1GbE Ports Embedded on the system board.

Internal PERC NOTE:

Mixing PERC 11 adapters (H750, H350, HBA350i) with previous-generation adapters (H740P, H730P, HBA330, H330) within the same system is not supported.

The Dell PowerEdge R540 rack server features a dedicated PERC slot positioned near the backplane behind the fans, optimizing both cooling and cabling access.

BOSS suits non-virtualized OS deployments best, whereas IDSDM is the better fit for virtualized environments.

IDSDM or vFlash card

Mounted in a dedicated slot at the rear of the chassis, the IDSDM with vFlash module runs on a Dell EMC-proprietary PCIe x1 slot via USB 3.0. The PowerEdge R440 shifts card format from SD to microSD, supporting 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB for IDSDM and a fixed 16GB for vFlash, with an onboard write-protect switch built into the module.

Boot Optimized Storage Subsystem (BOSS)

BOSS supplies a fast, alternate location for OS installation, freeing up drive-based storage for data use instead. Built specifically for OS booting, this RAID solution card supports up to two 6Gbps M.2 SATA drives through an x8 connector on PCIe Gen2 x2 lanes, available only in low-profile, half-height form factor.
