HPE DL180 Gen10 Base Knowledge

HPE DL180 Gen10 comes with the (P11709-001) System board which supports first-generation and second-generation Intel Xeon Scalable Processors. The DL180 Gen10 can support 16 total DIMMs on a 2 Socket configuration with 8 DIMM slots per processor, 6 channels per processor, 2 channels @ 2 DIMMs per channel, and 4 channels @ 1 DIMM per channel.

The DL180 Gen10 Rack Server from HPE comes with the embedded HPE Smart Array S100i SR Gen10 SW RAID. This controller will operate in UEFI mode only. For legacy support an additional controller will be needed. Also, HPE Smart Array S100i SR Gen10 SW RAID is off by default and must be enabled using the Enable SW RAID option (784308-B21) while configuring.

The S100i Smart Array Controller with embedded software RAID supports 14 SATA drives. The DL180 Gen10 has many storage controller options with support for the 12Gb SFF SAS Expander Card Kit with Cables (875132-B21). This SAS option Connects more than 8 drives to a single controller and can only be used in Slot 1 on 8SFF CTO model (879517-B21).

The other storage drive option is the use of the Type-A Smart Array controller. The Type-A controller does not use a PCI slot and needs special cables to connect to the Drive Bays. You can find the correct cable by the names of the cables. If you install a Performance Smart Array you will need to install either the HPE Smart Storage Battery (P01366-B21) which is sold separately and supports 6 P-Class Smart Array controllers. Or the HPE Smart Storage Hybrid Capacitor with 145mm Cable Kit (P02377-B21). The Hybrid Capacitor supports up to 3 P-class Smart Array controllers

The final option for storage is the 2SFF rear drive cage. HPE DL180 Gen10 Rear 2SFF enablement Kit (875176-B21) is supported by all three chassis. The Rear 2SFF has specific cable kits for each controller. If you plan to use the P816i-a Controller, use the HPE DL180 Gen10 Rear 2SFF to P816i-a Enablement Kit (P37790-B21). This kit includes a rear-drive cage and cables to connect 2 rear SFF SAS/SATA drives to the P816i-a storage controller.

If installing the P816i-a storage controller, please take note of the correct cables in the CTO Cable section. The P816i-a is the only smart array that has a different 2SFF rear enablement kit.

The Universal SATA M.2 Kit will require a PCIe slot and support up to two of the same M.2 cards below.

HPE Universal SATA 6G AIC HHHL M.2 SSD Enablement Kit (878783-B21) will need the HPE DL1X0 Gen10 SATA M.2 Cable Kit (866456-B21) to be installed. You cannot mix M.2 Drives.

HPE DL180 Gen10 PCI Risers
The DL180 Gen10 HPE Rack Server has a total of 6 PCIe slots. When installing the second riser cage the second Processor must be installed. The Primary Riser Cage has 3 riser card options while the Secondary Riser Cage only has 2 riser card options. Below are the Riser Options and their slot details.

The HPE DL180 Gen10 CPU1 FlexibleLOM Riser Kit (866941-B21) is required when installing any FlexibleLOM Adapters.

The HPE DL180 Gen10 Rear 2SFF Enablement Kit (875176-B21) and the CPU2 Riser kits can’t be installed at the same time. They take up the same slot in the rear of the chassis.

HPE DL180 Gen10 Cooling

HPE DL180 Gen10 Redundant Fan Kit (866947-B21) contains 1 additional fan. This is the only cooling kit for the DL180 Gen10 system. The Redundant Fan kit is for fan failure.

HPE DL180 Gen10 GPU / Workload Accelerator

The only mention of GPU or workload is in the Riser section. All other spec sheets never reference any supported GPUs or workload accelerators.

HPE DL180 Gen10 Flex Slot your power!
When selecting any FLEX Slot PSUs, you will need the HPE DL1X0 Gen10 Redundant Power Supply Enablement Kit (866442-B21).

HPE Flexible Slot (Flex Slot) Power Supplies share a common electrical and physical design that allows for hot plug, tool-less installation into HPE ProLiant Gen10 Performance Servers. Flex Slot power supplies are certified for high-efficiency operation and offer multiple power output options, allowing users to "right-size" a power supply for specific server configurations. This flexibility helps to reduce power waste, lower overall energy costs, and avoid "trapped" power capacity in the data center.

The DL180 Gen10 has the option of a Modular Network Adapter which does not take up a PCI slot but does provide the system with a 1GB or 10GB adapter port. This option can be found in the Network Adapter section of the CTO and can be an alternative to a Network Adapter or FlexibleLOM Adapter that might take up a PCI slot.

HPE Rear Serial Port and Enablement Kit (764646-B21) option can be found in the cable section of the CTO.

Express Computer Systems (ECS) provides a 1 year parts warranty against defects in material or workmanship that will affect the products functionality. All refurbished items are tested prior to shipping to guarantee up-time upon arrival. If you are having issues with an item we provided please Contact Us and we will do our best to assist you.

What does our ECS warranty cover?
We offer 1 year warranty as standard and additional years can be added to fit your needs. Please reach out to a sales associate via the Contact Us page or live chat for more information on extended coverage options. During the coverage period if your product fails we will offer a Next Business Day replacement. If we are unable to replace the product we will refund its original selling price. Shipping costs and tax are not refundable. Express Computer Systems retains the right to decide whether the goods will be replaced or refunded.

What is not covered by our warranty?
Our warranty does not cover any problem caused by the following conditions:

  1. accidents; misuse; carelessness; electrostatic discharge; shock; temperature or humidity beyond the specifications of the product; improper installation; operation; modification;
  2. any improper use that contravenes the instructions in the user manual;
  3. problems caused by other equipment. Our warranty is void if the product is returned with damaged, removed, counterfeit labels, or any modifications (including any component or external cover removal). Our warranties do not cover data loss or damages to any other equipment. In addition, our warranties do not cover incidental damages, consequential damages, or costs related to data recovery, removal, and installation.

Important notes:

  • Please ask for additional warranty/coverage that you may require in addition to the standard 1 ECS warranty prior to final purchase. Requesting additional warranty after your purchase can be denied.
