The UCS C220 M5 LFF server extends the capabilities of Cisco’s Unified Computing System portfolio in a 1U form factor with the addition of the 2nd Generation Intel® Xeon® Scalable Processors, DDR4-3200MHz memory, and the new 512GB Intel® Optane™ Persistent Memory (PMem). With this combination of features, up to 9 TB of memory is possible (12 x 256 GB DDR4 DIMMs and 12 x 512 GB PMem), two 2 PCI Express (PCIe) 3.0 slots, up to four SAS/SATA hard disk drives (HDDs) or solid state drives (SSDs), and one dedicated internal slot for a 12G SAS storage controller card.

The C220 M5 LFF server includes a dedicated internal modular LAN on motherboard (mLOM) slot for installation of a Cisco Virtual Interface Card (VIC) or third-party network interface card (NIC) without consuming a PCI slot in addition to 2 x 10 Gbase-T Intel® x550 embedded (on the motherboard) LOM ports.

The Cisco UCS C220 M5 server can be used standalone, or as part of the Cisco Unified Computing System, which unifies computing, networking, management, virtualization, and storage access into a single integrated architecture, enabling end-to-end server visibility, management, and control in both bare metal and virtualized environments.

Internal storage devicesDrive storage:
Drives are installed into front-panel drive bays that provide hot-swappable access for SAS/SATA drives. The server accommodates up to 4 x 3.5-inch SAS and SATA HDDs and SSDs and up to 2 NVMe PCIe drives

  • One internal USB 3.0 port on the motherboard that you can use with an optional 16 GB USB thumb drive for additional storage.
  • A mini-storage module connector on the motherboard supports either:
    • • An SD card module with two SD card slots. Mixing different capacity SD cards is not supported.

  • One socket for a micro-SD card on PCIe riser 1. The micro-SD card serves as a dedicated local resource for utilities such as HUU. Images can be pulled from a file share (NFS/CIFS) and uploaded to the cards for future use.

Integrated management processorBaseboard Management Controller (BMC) running Cisco Integrated Management Controller (CIMC) firmware.

  • For all self-encrypting drives (SED), standalone Management (CIMC/UCSM) is supported for configuring and managing local keys. For now, SED drives are managed with local key management only. Third-party key management will be supported (KMIP compliant).

RAID Volumes and Groups
-When creating each RAID volume, follow these guidelines:
  • Use the same capacity for each drive in each RAID volume
  • For embedded software RAID:
    • Use only SATA HDDs or SATA SSDs
    • Embedded software RAID has two ports and each port can control 4 drives, for 8 drives total.
    • Each set of 4 SATA HDDs for a port must be in separate RAID volumes.
    • You cannot mix drives across ports to create a RAID volume.
    • For more details, see Embedded Software RAID.
  • For the Cisco 12G SAS RAID controller upgrade:
    • Use either all SAS/SATA HDDs, or all SAS SSDs, or all SATA SSDs in each RAID volume

Intel® Virtual RAID on CPU (Intel® VROC)

Intel VROC:
[1] The server supports Intel® Virtual RAID on CPU (Intel® VROC). VROC is an enterprise RAID solution used with Intel NVMe SSDs . The Intel® Volume Management Device (Intel® VMD) is a controller integrated into the CPU PCIe root complex. Intel® VMD NVMe SSDs are connected to the CPU, which allows the full performance potential of fast Intel® Optane™ SSDs to be realized. Intel® VROC, when implemented, replaces traditional hardware RAID host bus adapter (HBA) cards placed between the drives and the CPU.

ECS Warranty Information

Express Computer Systems (ECS) provides a 1 year parts warranty against defects in material or workmanship that will affect the products functionality. All refurbished items are tested prior to shipping to guarantee up-time upon arrival. If you are having issues with an item we provided please Contact Us and we will do our best to assist you.

What does our ECS warranty cover?
We offer 1 year warranty as standard and additional years can be added to fit your needs. Please reach out to a sales associate via the Contact Us page or live chat for more information on extended coverage options. During the coverage period if your product fails we will offer a Next Business Day replacement. If we are unable to replace the product we will refund its original selling price. Shipping costs and tax are not refundable. Express Computer Systems retains the right to decide whether the goods will be replaced or refunded.

What is not covered by our warranty?
Our warranty does not cover any problem caused by the following conditions:

  1. accidents; misuse; carelessness; electrostatic discharge; shock; temperature or humidity beyond the specifications of the product; improper installation; operation; modification;
  2. any improper use that contravenes the instructions in the user manual;
  3. problems caused by other equipment. Our warranty is void if the product is returned with damaged, removed, counterfeit labels, or any modifications (including any component or external cover removal). Our warranties do not cover data loss or damages to any other equipment. In addition, our warranties do not cover incidental damages, consequential damages, or costs related to data recovery, removal, and installation.

Important notes:

  • Please ask for additional warranty/coverage that you may require in addition to the standard 1 ECS warranty prior to final purchase. Requesting additional warranty after your purchase can be denied.
