The HPE ProLiant Compute DL380a Gen12 is a 4U, dual-socket accelerator-optimized rack server built for AI, machine learning, and GPU-accelerated computing workloads. Powered by up to two 6th Generation Intel Xeon 6 processors (up to 144 cores each) and 32 DDR5 DIMM slots supporting up to 8 TB of memory, this enterprise AI server delivers high-performance computing for data centers, AI inferencing, and GPU acceleration at scale.
Designed as a dedicated GPU server, the DL380a Gen12 supports up to 10 double-wide or 16 single-wide GPUs via PCIe Gen5 switch boards and captive risers, with NVIDIA NVLink bridging for multi-GPU AI workloads. There is no configuration where the DLC is mandatory.
The MR (MegaRAID) and SR (Smart Array) controller families use different management tools and cannot be installed together in the same server. With a tri-mode U.3 backplane, both series support SAS, SATA, and NVMe drives, allowing mixed drive types in one system. This server has no built-in hardware RAID, so a storage controller is required for any RAID functionality — direct-attached SATA drives without one run in AHCI mode only.

Intel® VROC (Virtual RAID on CPU) is a software-based RAID solution for direct-attached NVMe SSDs, run through the CPU instead of a hardware storage controller.
