The HPE ProLiant DL180 Gen9 Server provides ample storage capacity on demand with drive configurations ranging from (4) to (12) Large Form Factor (LFF) or (8) to (16) Small Form Factor (SFF) HPE SmartDrives, with flexibility of LFF non-hot plug (NHP) options at the right economics.

It supports up to two Intel Xeo processor E5-2600 v3/v4 processors with up to (12) cores and (16) DIMM slots of HPE DDR4 SmartMemory offering improved performance and efficiency.

Comes standard with 2x1GbE and choice of HPE FlexibleLOM or PCIe standup 1GbE or 10GbE Adapters provide you flexibility of networking bandwidth and fabric so you can adapt and grow to changing business needs.

Up to six PCIe 3.0 riser slots to support a wide range of GPUs and networking cards offering increased IO bandwidth and seamless expandability.

Base Knowledge
The HPE DL180 Rack Server has support for 2 Intel Xeon E5-2600v3 or v4 Processors. When installing a Second GPU or accessing all the PCI slots, you will need the second processor and most likely the redundant power supply. The DL180 Rack Server holds up to 8 DIMMs per CPU with a total of 16 DIMMs. The system supports both LRDIMM and RDIMM, below is the max for each. Mixing of memory types is not supported.

  • Maximum Capacity 1TB (16 x 64GB LRDIMM @2400MHz)
  • Maximum Capacity 512GB (16 x 32GB RDIMM @2400MHz)

The DL180 comes with the B140i controller. Which provides support for up to 8 SATA drives and has data transmission speeds up to 6Gb/s while also supporting RAID 0, 1 & 5. If you would like to upgrade to SAS storage you will need the H240 (726907 -B21) or the P440 (726821-B21). Both provide support for up to 8 SAS/SATA drives, data transmission speeds up to 12Gb/s, and supports RAID 0, 1 & 5. If 8 SAS drives are not enough, you can install the P840 Smart Array (726897 -B21). This P840 provides support for up to 16 SAS/SATA drives, data transmission speeds up to 12Gb/s. If you install a Performance Smart Array you will also need the HP 96W Smart Storage Battery with 145mm Cable for DL/ML/SL Servers (727258-B21 ). Please view the cable section for the correct cables.

Before we move on, we need to talk about the chassis drive upgrade kits. You can go from 4 Non-Hot-Plug to 8 Non-Hot-Plug by adding the HPE DL180 Gen9 8LFF Non-hot Plug FIO Cable Kit (774869-B21). If you selected the 8LFF Hot Plug Chassis, you could upgrade to make it a 12 LFF Chassis with the HP DL180 Gen9 12LFF Hot Plug Enablement Kit (725574-B21). If this upgrade is made you will also have to remove the I/O assembly from the front and install the Quick-release Rack ears. Finally, if you selected the 8SFF Chassis, you could upgrade it to a total of 16 SFF Drives with the HP DL180 Gen9 8SFF Hard Drive Cage/Backplane Kit (725572-B21). These drive kits with the controllers above will provide you with all the flexibility needed to grow your system.

M.2
M.2 drives go in a PCIe slot and use the B140i SATA controller only. You have the choice of either a single or dual 340GB M.2 PCIe Kit or you can install the riser card alone and select your M.2 Drives to be installed. Remember this will take up a PCIe slot.

PCI Risers
With a total of 6 PCI-e Slots on a max of two riser cards on the DL180 HPE Rack Server. You must be selective about how you use them. If you are trying to expand the network capabilities with FlexibleLOM or any other type of network card. Please double-check the slot length needed when choosing the riser. If you would like to install 2 GPU’s you will need to upgrade the CPU and install the redundant fan kit. Below is a table of the risers and their slot length and height. Please refer to this when choosing a riser for your adapters.

Cooling
Each processor comes with 2 fans for optimal cooling, if you desire fan redundancy you can install the Dual redundant fans option kit (725571-B21). If you install 2 GPU’s you will need to install the fan redundancy and 2 CPUs.

GPU /
Workload Accelerator
The HPE DL180 Gen9 Graphic Card Adapter Kit is a power cable for the GPU which is necessary for each GPU you install. Please only install the workload accelerators in this CTO. If you plan to install 2 GPUs, then you will need to install a second processor and the redundant fan option kit. Remember each CPU comes with 2 Fans so you will only need one of each.

Let’s talk power!
Power has not changed in the Gen9 DL Series. You have the standard non-hot-plug 500W PSU, but if you want more power or a redundant configuration you can install the 900W RPSU. If you install the 900W RPSU ( 775595-B21) then you will also need to install the RPSU Backplane ( 814835-B21 ) and a PSU Blank for airflow. If you desire 2x900W RPSU, there is a kit that comes with both batteries and the backplane ( 820792-B21 ).

Other Information
Like a few other DL Gen9 Series servers, if you want the 2U security bezel installed you must also install the HP Quick-release Latch Rack Ears Kit (725579-B21 ). The Quick Release Rack ears also provide the USB 3.0 port to the front of the server.

If you have the 12LFF configuration, there is no room for the front assembly and the Quick-release Latch ears are mandatory.

Only on the SFF models can the Thumbscrew Ear (782641-B21 ) be installed since the SFF Chassis has a front I/O Assembly that sits vertically next to the drives.

Lights Out! iLO
This Dl180 HPE Rack Server has the ability to access the iLO software by installing the HP DL180 Gen9 Dedicated iLO Management Port Kit (725581-B21 ).
HPE Integrated Lights-Out (HPE iLO) - Monitor your servers for ongoing management, service alerting, reporting, and remote management with HPE iLO.
UEFI - Configure and boot your servers securely with industry-standard Unified Extensible
Firmware Interface (UEFI).
RESTful API - RESTful API for iLO 4 is Redfish 1.0 conformance for simplified server management such as configuration and maintenance tasks based on modern industry standards.
Intelligent Provisioning – Hassle-free server and OS provisioning for 1 or few servers with Intelligent Provisioning.
Embedded Remote Support - The Hewlett Packard Enterprise embedded remote support when used with Insight Online direct connect or HPE Insight Remote Support, allows HPE ProLiant servers to transmit hardware events directly to Hewlett Packard Enterprise or a Hewlett Packard Enterprise Authorized Partner for automated phone home support.

ECS Warranty Information

Express Computer Systems (ECS) provides a 1 year parts warranty against defects in material or workmanship that will affect the products functionality. All refurbished items are tested prior to shipping to guarantee up-time upon arrival. If you are having issues with an item we provided please Contact Us and we will do our best to assist you.

What does our ECS warranty cover?
We offer 1 year warranty as standard and additional years can be added to fit your needs. Please reach out to a sales associate via the Contact Us page or live chat for more information on extended coverage options. During the coverage period if your product fails we will offer a Next Business Day replacement. If we are unable to replace the product we will refund its original selling price. Shipping costs and tax are not refundable. Express Computer Systems retains the right to decide whether the goods will be replaced or refunded.

What is not covered by our warranty?
Our warranty does not cover any problem caused by the following conditions:

  1. accidents; misuse; carelessness; electrostatic discharge; shock; temperature or humidity beyond the specifications of the product; improper installation; operation; modification;
  2. any improper use that contravenes the instructions in the user manual;
  3. problems caused by other equipment. Our warranty is void if the product is returned with damaged, removed, counterfeit labels, or any modifications (including any component or external cover removal). Our warranties do not cover data loss or damages to any other equipment. In addition, our warranties do not cover incidental damages, consequential damages, or costs related to data recovery, removal, and installation.

Important notes:

  • Please ask for additional warranty/coverage that you may require in addition to the standard 1 ECS warranty prior to final purchase. Requesting additional warranty after your purchase can be denied.
