The refurbished DL20 Gen9 Server offers a range of HPE Qualified Options to fit most needs like affordable drives for light workloads, solid state drives for the demanding requirements, from a single non-hot plug power supply to an efficient HPE Hot Plug Redundant Power supply, from multiple storage controllers to the HPE FlexibleLOM networking cards-helping customers find the right configuration for their workloads.
The HPE DL20 Rack Server is not very large in its 1U configuration. That’s why it can only hold up to (2) LFF drives and up to (4) SFF drives. The DL20 Rack server has three configuration to choose from. Below are the options.

The DL20 Gen9 has limited expansion slots. If you choose a P440, H240, or P841 controller, you cannot select the standard 331T or 366T networking cards due to slot conflicts. To expand networking capabilities, consider using the Flexible LOM Riser Kit (811259-B21) and the 331FLR or 366FLR adapters.

The DL20 Gen9 uses the B140i controller for up to 4 SATA drives at 6Gb/s, supporting RAID 0, 1, and 5. For improved performance, the H240 FIO HBA offers 4 SAS/SATA drives at 12Gb/s.
The B140i is UEFI-only. For legacy BIOS, an additional controller and the Legacy mode setting (758959-B22) are necessary.
Smart Array Controller
For maximum performance, consider the P440/P441/P841 Smart Array Controllers. These require the 96W Smart Storage Battery (P01366-B21) and holder (822451-B21) for Flash Back Write Cache.
The Two-slot riser board (854846-B21) is ideal for this Smart Array configuration. If you choose a P440, H240, or P841 controller, you cannot select the standard 331T or 366T networking cards due to slot conflicts.
If you choose any kind of GPU (Max 1), you can only install it on HL/FH PCI-e 3.0x16 Slot 2 with the HPE DL20 Gen9 GPU Enablement Kit (811271-B21). There is no slot 1 on this GPU Riser. Please reach the Tech Manual below for more details about the PCIe slots.
The HPE Quickspec manual below shows only two GPUs supported by the DL20 Rack Server.

GPU Enablement Kit (811271-B21)
The DL20 Rack Server comes with the HPE DL20 Gen9 290W Power Supply Unit. This Non-Hot-Plug Power Supply Unit ( 823805-001) is allowed in every chassis option. If you were looking for a redundant Power supply, then you will have to select the SFF Chassis. The power backplane option can support up to two (2) hot-plug AC power input modules. This Redundant power supply option is only supported on DL20 Gen9 SFF chassis model.
If you’re going to install the redundant power supply, then you will need the following items.
- HPE 900W Standard AC 240VDC Power Input Module (775595-B21 - 830219-001)
- HPE DL20 Gen9 Redundant Power Supply Cable Kit (820306-B21 - 823807-001)
- HPE 900W Standard AC 240VDC RPS Power Backplane Kit (828735-B21 - 830022-001)
