The Dell PowerEdge R760xs is a 2U dual-socket rack server built for scalable performance and large storage capacity in enterprise data centers. This purpose-built server solution delivers the latest technology to power popular business workloads, including virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), virtual machines (VMs), and software-defined storage (SDS) — all within a balanced, thoughtfully designed platform that fits seamlessly into existing infrastructure.
All models support the BOSS option, with the exception of the 12-bay chassis. Other configurations support up to 2 GPUs when both CPUs are installed, while the 12-bay configuration is the only one that supports the rear bay option.

Rear Bay Drive Options:
The rear-drive module is supported only on the 12-bay chassis configuration, and does not support the Kioxia CM6 series, Samsung PM1735 series, Hynix PE8010 7.68TB, Samsung PM1733a above 1.92TB, Samsung PM1735a above 1.6TB, or Redtail NVMe drives.

NOTE:
The 16x 2.5" SAS/SATA backplane configuration combines two 8x 2.5" SAS/SATA backplanes (8 + 8).
Limitations with the 12 LFF Chassis
The 12-bay chassis has notable thermal restrictions that limit which components can be installed.
- Cannot support PCIe card with the cooling requirement of more than 300LFM at 55C.
- Cannot support OCP card with a cooling requirement of more than 250LFM at 55C
(3Y64D / 4TRD3 / GGGDF / R1KTR / Y4VV5) . - Solarflare Melrose DP 25 GBE SFP28 (TTKWY) not supported.
- 100 Gb network adapter or 100 Gb OCP is not supported.
- The 12 Bay Chassis requires the optical transceiver with higher temperature spec (≥ 85°C) to support (M14MK / N8TDR).
- The 12 Bay Chassis is the only one to support the rear drive cage.

The Dell PowerEdge R760xs rack server offers 2 heatsink options, selected based on processor TDP, along with 3 fan types — Standard, Silver, and Gold — which vary depending on other installed components. The table below outlines these configuration requirements.
Heatsink (HSK) TDP Rules
If the processor's TDP is below 185W, a Standard heatsink is installed; otherwise, the high-performance heatsink is used.
The exception is the 12-bay chassis, where processors with a TDP below 125W support the Standard heatsink.
Fan Config Rules
Fan zone 1 must be populated with a High-Performance Gold fan when BOSS, GPU, or rear drive module components are installed. If fan zone 1 is not populated, a fan blank is required.

The Dell PowerEdge R760xs rack server, in a two-socket configuration, supports 16 DDR5 DIMM slots with up to 1TB of RDIMM memory at speeds up to 4800 MT/s, and supports registered ECC DDR5 DIMMs only.
- All DIMMs must be DDR5
- Memory mixing is not supported for different DIMM capacities.
- A minimum of 1 DIMM must be populated for each installed processor.

The LOM and OCP options expand network connectivity on the Dell PowerEdge R760xs. The LOM is built into the system board and supports 2x 1GbE ports, while the optional OCP 3.0 card supports up to 4 ports at speeds up to 25Gb/s. If the OCP card is installed without the rear riser, an OCP air shroud must be installed.

This system supports single or dual processor configurations. Depending on the socket configuration, it can hold from 2 low-profile Gen4 slots up to 6 PCIe slots, ranging from x8 Gen4 to x16 Gen5. Only one cable riser can be installed at a time in any given configuration.
Slots 1, 2, 5, and 6 are Gen4 slots, while slots 3 and 4, located on the risers, are Gen5 slots.
