It runs on the latest Intel Xeon E-2400 series processors with DDR5 memory, NVMe BOSS support, and an Energy Star 4.0 PSU — an energy-efficient server solution designed to keep pace with growing businesses at the edge.

The Dell PowerEdge R260 supports up to six fans total — five Standard and one High-Performance — depending on system configuration, though none are hot-swappable. Fan count shifts based on chassis selection: choosing the 6x 2.5" chassis adds two more fan slots behind the drive cage, while installing the BOSS-N1 module requires the single High-Performance fan.

The Boot Optimized Storage Subsystem offers the ideal way to load the OS on this server, sparing you from dedicating one of the limited drive bays otherwise required — especially since drive-type mixing isn't supported. The BOSS module occupies its own dedicated slot, housing 2 hot-swap M.2 drives.

A second option comes via an embedded USB slot on the system board, capable of loading any required OS — see the manual for more on the internal USB option.

Storage Controllers

Among Dell's RAID controller options is the Adapter PERC solution, which delivers a base RAID hardware controller without using up a PCIe slot, thanks to a compact, high-density connector to the base planar.

The Adapter PERC (aPERC) installs into one of the available PCIe slots, requiring the RC1 Butterfly riser, which supports 2 PCIe 4.0 slots.
