The Dell EMC Unity 500 supports all three types of DAE’s with a max being either 33 DAE’s or 500 drives. When calculating the number of drives make sure to count the DPE drives as well in the total.
- 2U 25-drive DAE with 2.5-inch drives FLASH and SAS
- 3U 15-drive DAE with 3.5-inch drives FLASH, SAS and NL-SAS
- 3U 80-drive DAE with 2.5-inch drives FLASH and SAS
If you are looking for rich features and absolute simplicity in a small footprint, if you are cost-conscious and need the best from the best, Dell EMC Unity Hybrid Flash is for you. Designed for flash with rich data services, it delivers flash performance with the cost advantage of disk.
All Hybrid Models support 2 Drive Carrier types. The 12x3.5” and the 25x2.5”. Flash models only support the 25x2.5” model. Each unit has 2 Storage Processors (SP’s) in the rear with each 2 configurable ports and 2 Module slots that can hold up to 6 different modules.
The Dell EMC Unity hybrid models are the only ones to support FAST and FAST VP technology which helps with tiered storage and accessibility to high-frequency data.
The Dell EMC Unity 300 has 2 Storage Processors.
Each SP comes with:
- Intel Xeon E5-2660 10-Core 2.6 GHz processor.
- 4 16GB DDR4 DIMM for a total of 64GB Per SP
- 2 embedded CNA ports (4 configurations possible)
- 2 10GbaseT ports
- 6 (2 embedded and 4 I/O mini-HD SAS ports)
- 2 PCI 3.0, x8 lane I/O module slots (6 Modules supported)
Each SP contains two integrated CNA ports (labeled 4 and 5). These ports are PCI Express 3.0 x4 adapters that provide interfaces that can be configured as Ethernet, or Fibre Channel, but once set to a protocol, cannot be changed. If CNA ports are set to Ethernet, you can use 1Gb/s, 10Gb/s SFPs, Twin-AX for File (IP), or iSCSI Block access. If the ports are set to Fibre Channel, then you can use SFPs supporting 4, 8, 16 Gb/s FC multi-mode, or single-mode SFPs supporting 16Gb/s only.
2 ports, configurable as either:
- 8/16 Gb Fibre Channel
- 4/8/16 Gb Fibre Channel
- 16 Gb Fibre Channel (single mode)
- 1/10 Gb IP/iSCSI
Note: The four CNA ports cannot be configured independently; they must all be configured with the same network protocol.
Each SP has two slots that can support 6 different options.
- Four-port 12-Gb/s SAS I/O module
- Four-port 16-Gb/s Fibre Channel I/O module
- Four-port 10-Gb/s optical I/O module
- Four-port 10GBASE-T I/O module
- Four-port 1GBASE-T I/O module
- Two-port 10Gb/s optical I/O module
Note: When adding new I/O modules, always install I/O modules in pairs—one module in SP A and one module in SP B. Both SPs must have the same type of I/O modules in the same slots. Please read the manual below for more details to each module listed above.
AC 100 to 240 VAC ± 10%, single phase, 47 to 63 Hz
DC Line Voltage -39 to -72 V DC (Nominal -48V or -60V power systems)

FAST Cache:
A feature that allows Flash drives to be configured as a large-capacity secondary cache for the pools on the system. Only allowed in a Hybrid Dell EMC Unity.
FAST VP:Accelerates the performance of a specific storage pool by automatically moving data within that pool to the appropriate drive technology, based on data access patterns. For applications which are continuously active, consider configuring FAST VP relocations to run constantly.
