Dell PowerEdge FX Architecture Server Options
The PowerEdge FC640 delivers powerful performing processors, large memory capacity and highly scalable I/O capability that meet virtualization, server consolidation, scale-out, private cloud or hybrid cloud needs.
The FX2 chassis has two versions:
-
PowerEdge FX2s: “switched” configuration supporting up to eight low-profile PCIe 3.0 expansion slots
-
PowerEdge FX2: lower-cost “unswitched” configuration that does not offer expansion slots.

The FC830 is a Powerful 4-socket server with dense compute, memory scalability and a highly expandable storage subsystem, the Dell PowerEdge FC830 is designed for data centers requiring the performance and reliability enterprise applications demand.
With powerful processors, enormous memory and highly scalable I/O capabilities, the PowerEdge FC830 excels at running a wide range of database-driven, mission-critical applications for midsize and large businesses, like enterprise resource planning (ERP) and customer relationship management (CRM). Combining exceptional performance and data access capabilities, the FC830 is also ideal for the database tier of web tech and HPC environments or large-scale virtualization.
Flexible, scalable, powerfulPowered by up to four 22-core Intel Xeon E5-4600 v4 processors, each FC830 has 48 DIMMs, 16 x 1.8-inch, or eight 2.5-inch front access drives, a dual-port 10GB select network adapter (SNA) and access to four PCI Express (PCIe) expansion slots in the shared chassis.
Fit the infrastructure to the jobBuild an infrastructure that’s tailormade for your unique IT requirements. The FC830 provide flexible virtualization with great VM density and highly scalable resources for the consolidation of large or performance-hungry VMs, and also offers a rich set of storage options, including the PowerEdge FD332 storage block, which provides up to 16 direct-attached drives
The efficiencies of shared infrastructureFC830 servers are housed in the FX2 enclosure, a 2U converged platform delivering the density of a blade architecture with the simplicity and cost benefits of rack-based systems — all in a compact modular design. The FX2 delivers efficiency through shared power, cooling, networking and management, as well as PCIe slots and I/O module options that enable any style of storage — DAS, SAN or NAS.
Right-size your ITQuickly and efficiently add resources to the chassis at the single block level, or add one or more fully loaded 2U enclosures. A single FX2 with two FC830 servers, scales up to 176 cores, 96 DIMMs of memory and 32 drives of in-server storage so you can readily tailor your infrastructure with the right power, storage and connectivity to meet your unique business needs.
Mezzanine Fabric B1, B2, & C1, C2
The FC830 is a Full-Width Blade server which means it supports double the components of the half-width blade server. The FX servers can only support up to 2 Full-Width blade servers in one enclosure. For a total of 8 Mezzanine Cards installed. Therefore the FC830 has access to all the Fabric ports on the back of the FX2 Enclosure.
You also have the option to install a pass-thru in any of these mezzanine slots.
Storage Controllers | SAS Expander
Both the storage controller and expander use the same slot. These two cards can't be installed together. The Expander is only used when installing the 16x 1.8" Backplane.

- miniPERC H730
- miniPERC H730p
SAS Expander
The SAS Expander is used for the 1.8" Chassis and connects SSDs populated in bays 0-7 to the system board through an expander card.
Heat Sinks, Dimensions & Weight
Heat Sink If you are using a 1.8-inch hard drive/SSD system with four processors, ensure that you use only 74 mm wide heat sinks for processors up to 105 W, 120 W, or 135 W.
If you are using a 2.5-inch hard drive/SSD system with four processors, ensure that you use only 94 mm wide heat sinks for processors up to 120 W or 135 W.
When using a 94 mm wide heat sink for quad processors, the memorymodule sockets A10, A12, B10, B12, C10, C12, D10, and D12 are not available for population.
