The Cisco Catalyst 4900M Switch is a high-performance, 2RU fixed-configuration switch designed for top-of-rack data center access and midmarket collapsed core or aggregation layer deployments. It supports both 10/100/1000 and 10GBASE-T server access with 1: 1 uplink-to-downlink oversubscription, making it ideal for mixed or full 10 Gigabit Ethernet environments. The base unit offers eight fixed wire-speed X2 ports and two optional half-card slots, delivering 320 Gbps switching capacity and 250 mpps throughput. Key features include low latency, scalable buffers, hot-swappable power supplies (AC or DC), and a field-replaceable fan tray for optimized uptime.

Targeted for space-constrained environments like branch offices or midmarket cores, the 4900M provides wire-speed Layer 3 switching, burst-handling buffer capacity, and high availability.
