The Cisco UCS VIC 1340 is a modular LAN-on-motherboard (mLOM) adapter designed for the M4 generation of Cisco UCS B-Series Blade Servers. It features two 40-Gbps unified I/O ports, supporting up to 80 Gbps of total throughput. Additionally, it offers two sets of 4 x 10-Gbps connections for flexible deployment. This adapter enables the creation of over 256 virtual PCIe adapters, including both NICs and HBAs, and operates independently of SR-IOV support in operating systems. The VIC 1340 helps reduce infrastructure complexity by consolidating LAN and SAN traffic, while offering high bandwidth and scalability.
To fully utilize its hardware potential, the Cisco VIC 1340 can be paired with a Port Expander card. This addition activates all available physical links, enabling the adapter to achieve its full 80-Gbps throughput. The expansion option provides an upgrade path for high-performance workloads, allowing IT teams to scale capacity without needing a full hardware replacement.
