The NetApp FAS8200 2-Node Stretch MetroCluster with Fiber Bridge is a high-availability storage solution designed for environments requiring seamless failover and disaster recovery. Featuring a dual-chassis configuration, this system includes two controllers with a total of 256GB of memory and two 64-bit, 16-core processors running at 1.70 GHz. With a total rack height of 6U, it supports up to 480 drives and a maximum capacity of 10.56PB, providing reliable scalability for enterprise workloads.
For connectivity, the FAS8200 offers four 10Gb RJ45 Ethernet ports, four 10Gb SFP Ethernet ports, and eight UTA2 SFP+ ports supporting both 10Gb and 16Gb speeds. Additionally, the system includes eight MiniSAS HD ports (12Gb) for high-speed storage expansion. Each controller is equipped with two PCIe slots and supports remote management for streamlined operations. Compatible disk shelves include DS212C, DS224C, and DS460C, allowing for flexible storage configurations.
The chassis measures 3U in rack height per unit, with dimensions of 5.12 inches in height, 17.6 inches in width, and 28.94 inches in depth, and a maximum weight of 76 lbs. The system supports RAID 4, RAID 6 (RAID-DP), and RAID-TEC for enhanced data protection. As a Stretch MetroCluster solution, this system extends SAS-based storage between two locations, allowing both controllers to access shared storage without requiring data mirroring, ensuring high availability and continuous operations.
The primary difference between a **2-Node Stretch MetroCluster with Fiber Bridge** and **Optical SAS** lies in how they extend storage connectivity between sites. The Fiber Bridge solution converts SAS connections to Fibre Channel, enabling longer-distance connections of up to 10km while maintaining high availability. In contrast, Optical SAS extends SAS storage directly over optical cabling without the need for a FibreBridge appliance but is typically limited to shorter distances (up to 300m). Fiber Bridge is ideal for environments needing greater flexibility in site placement, while Optical SAS is suited for shorter-distance deployments with minimal infrastructure changes.
